NEW TO RIDING

Well, I am offically getting my new Giant Avail today after work. I rented a gaint last weekend. I got a pair of Pearl Izumi Women's Sugar Knickers, I rode 13 miles and they were pretty dang comfortable, but my question is should I wear my sports underwear under them, or am I not supposed to wear anything with those? Also, should I use cream or the glide stuff also? Any advice would help, as I am brand new to road bike riding... Thanks and happy riding! :o)

Tanyia,

Welcome to road biking!  Good job on the 13 miles!
Congratulations on the new Avail.  About the underwear and cream or glide: I recommend prayer.  Some do, some do not.

Thank you for sharing, and I hope you will enjoy your new Avail!

Cheerfully,

Tanyia,
Congrats on the new ride!  The Avail is a great bike.  To answer your question, do not wear underwear with your cycling shorts.  Wearing underwear will cause more chaffing and discomfort.  Using cream or glide products is a personal preference, if you have problems with chaffing or saddle sores these anti-chaffing products definitely help. Hopefully this is helpful.
Happy riding,

Tanyia,
I just started riding again in May and have tried several shorts- and my riding buddies currently are men so they’re no help with advice! .  I am afraid there is no substitute for trying different options. I haven’t had to use cream - even on my 50 mile plus rides-but as the others have said commando is not an option- you must ride with nothing between you and the shorts.

I just tried a pair of Sugoi Evolution shorts and they were divine! If i were rich, I’d buy 5 pair in case they discontinue them!

have fun and ride safe!
