Giant CRX Zero
Hi
I've recently purchased a 2008 Giant CRX Zero. I don't find the seat very comfortable at the moment - I've only just started riding and have a rather large backside! Just wondering if anyone else has one and can recommend a womens specific (or men's) saddle they have found more comfortable? I want something not too expensive!
Thanks,
Melinda

Melinda,
I will call my local bike shop to do some research. The reality is that cycling comes with a sore bottom, even for small bottoms; however, another more appropriate seat might result in more comfort and motivation.

Melinda,
The 2010 Giant catalog offers the Unity VZ Comfort Plus saddle for women at about $30. I recommend prayer for all decision-making.

Hi Melinda--
We do not sell the CRX here in the US, but as far as I can tell, that would not have a seat specific for women.
There are a number of things you can do to address saddle comfort:
1) Make sure that you have padded cycling shorts (chamois). These are meant to add comfort while riding and may be an easy solution. And don’t be afraid to use chamois butter, a lubricant that you put on yourself and the chamois itself for chafing reduction.
2) Understand that wider, thicker saddles are generally for shorter distances and leisurely riding. As you progress in distance and ability, you will find that a smaller saddle is actually more comfortable.
3) Start with a women’s specific saddle that should be a more comfortable fit to begin with, given that women are built quite differently and have different pressure points.
4) Make sure that your saddle is in the proper position. Many saddles have up/down and fore/aft adjustment possibilities. Changing the tilt or the distance from the handlebars can have a major impact on your comfort.
5) Realize that it may take several tries to get the right combination of positioning, thickness, width, and chamois that is right for you.
Good luck,
Tiffany
