fcr2 - frame too small????

I bought an fcr2 size Small last year, but didn't begin riding until this spring. I have all but given up running due to a knee injury, and have really enjoyed cycling these past months.

Recently I began to notice how my butt moves SO far back on the seat - so as not to severely over-arch my back - that my PELVIS is leaning on where my butt should be. The seat has been moved as far back as possible (without an extension), and I look ridiculous. I am 5'5 and 110 pounds, so it seemed likely that a Small would fit me; BUT, I have a VERY long torso, so would that warrant a Medium? I'm terrified that I've spent too much money on a bike that doesn't fit me!!! My back is clearly awkwardly warped if I try to sit with my butt planted properly, and I'm no sage when it comes to cycling, but it definitely seems weird to me. Any ideas??? Will I compromise the bike if I get an extension (if there even IS one)?

Hi Meredith--

I am going to ask our resident fit expert Jenny Skorcz for her advice.  She’s fit hundreds of women so she should be able to shed some light.

Hi -
I have a similar question about fit. I have an extra-small Giant OCR3 that fits like a charm, and the same bike shop sold me a size medium Tran Send DX (and had to let up the seat a couple of times on it). The Tran Send feels heavy and large in comparison to the road bike, of course, but I’m afraid it may be too large for me. I’m 5’5” and 115 pounds, with long legs. Whenever I ride the Tran Send, I get kind of achy between my shoulders. Did I buy a bike that’s too big??
Thanks very much.

Hmmm I am 5’7” and ride a small Cypher. Technically, I fit a medium, but I am able to make the small work through stem and saddle adjustments. I prefer the small frame because it weighs less and itmakes it easier for me to navigate technical terrain.
the shop may have sold you an unnecessarily big frame. Achiness in your shoulders could simply be a function of the bars being too wide - they can be cut down.
Did you test ride a small? Get on a small and feel it out. If you notice a significant difference, talk with the folks at your shop.
By the way, there is some general information posted on the board about bike fit.
Take care!
