Women's Cycling Gear
I'm trying to find cycling apparel and most of the LBS just have for men except for cycling shoes. Anyone know of any good websites for women's apparel and gear?
First Road Bike ???
I already have a MTB [Giant Boulder SE] & now I'm looking for a road bike. I've looked at other brands but I don't know anything about the other companies except for Giant so I decided to just stick with what I'm use to. Besides that my LBS recommended Giant in the first place & my MTB is great haven't had a problems yet.
I've posted on bicycling.com asking for advice on entry-level road bikes. Pretty much everyone says a good bike is going to cost me over $1300 which to me is too much. I'm a recreational rider who usually rides solo and don't like going too fast [<25mph is fine by me]. The furtherest I've rode was 46miles during the TD Bike NYC ride.
The Giant Avail 3 looks like a good entry-level bike. Not only that but I like the price $750 & it comes in black. Any advice?
Anyone know of any good bike maintenace bks and shoes? Would like to learn more.

Favorite Shorts?
I'm curious which shorts are your favorite. I am a larger rider training for another century and really need to find some new shorts. Our local dealers are a bit lacking in the women's selection so I need to order online.
I have plenty of tri shorts, but find that they aren't effective past about 50 miles for me.
Thanks for the input!

Can you recommend a bike for me?
Hi, I am 5'3" woman and am close to 250 lbs, really trying to lose weight but haven't been on a bike in 15 years. I remember how I used to love riding my bike as a teenager and want to get back to that.. slowly but steadily. I am most likely to find deserted roads to ride in at first and some well laid trails.
What bike would you recommend for me? I can spend up to $500.
Thanks in advance!!

suede dx w and baby seat
I just bought a Suede DX W and the dealer at my location told us that the baby seat does not fit this bike due to the bike seat position, would you be able to confirm this statement? I would think Giant wouldn't make a bike that cannot install a baby seat though. Any suggestion? Thanks!
Went for a Early Mother's Day ride with my Daughter and Son (twins)
My Daughter and Son Will be 5 this next week.
Being a mother of 5 year old children is such a blessing. We rode for about an hour until my little one's got cold. We had such a wonderful morning

What to do
I fell off my bike 2 weeks ago and broke my arm, wrist and hand . I want to ride but can't now does anyone know is there any type of handle bar that will accommodate my cast.
Another bike-suggestion wanted
I've never posted here before, but here goes ! I've been riding my faithful Cypress DX for 3 yrs, and it's been fine, I found out that I really do love cycling -- it had been many years ! -- and now I know I definitely want a bike to ride faster, lighter, longer, more nimble, not the granny-upright position, either! But I don't have thousands of dollars to spend! I like to do rides of 15-50 miles, would do that more often than weekly and plan to go longer rides - like Bike AcrossKansas, down the CA coast, etc not racing, just for the hours and hours of fitness/pleasure on the open road.
I'd love to get your suggestions for a road bike that's "enough" for me, without breaking the bank or, for that matter, without the high-end features/components that really are beyond my level of expertise and, therefore, need.

Need a rack for Suede DX
I love love love my Suede DX except for one thing...it doesn't have a rear rack! I use it to commute, and a rear rack would make it much easier for me to ferry my work clothes, lunch, and so forth to and from work. Giant doesn't seem to sell any that I can add after the fact (they've got one for bikes with disk brakes, which mine doesn't have, and one that does not look like it's configured right for my bike). Anyone else have this situation? Any advice?
Personal Best
I just did something that I have never done before. I just rode 26 miles in 60 minutes. I have a stand for indoor riding in my house, so I can ride even in the winter.
Giant sizing
I currently ride a Giant OCRC1 size M but am looking to change to a women's specific design bike. I'm tall (5'9") with long legs but shorter torso. Giant used to have a sizing chart on its website that would help one know which size Giant frame would be best suited for one's height, but I can't find a similar chart for women's sizing. I tried a large in the alliance series but want to buy a carbon frame. Does the m in the avail advanced work or will it be too small? Why doesn't Giant make the Avail Advanced in a L; Trek and Specialized seem to make their high end carbon WSD frames in large sizes. Our local Giant dealer has been somewhat reluctant to jump on the women's frame bandwagon so it is hard to try one out. I love my OCRC1 and want to stick with Giant if possible. Any suggestions, recommendations?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Giant CRX Zero
Hi
I've recently purchased a 2008 Giant CRX Zero. I don't find the seat very comfortable at the moment - I've only just started riding and have a rather large backside! Just wondering if anyone else has one and can recommend a womens specific (or men's) saddle they have found more comfortable? I want something not too expensive!
Thanks,
Melinda

Ergo bar for Giant OCR 1?
I am a new cyclist and was lucky to have a well taken care of 2003 Giant OCR1 given to me. I am currently dealing with hand numbness on my left side. I have had multiple fittings, each time has gotten better - but now we are basically out of adjustments. My coach and the guys who have done my fittings are of the opinion that I need to upgrade my handlebars to a ergo or compact bar to give me a better "flat" surface in more locations for my hands. The problem is the stem on the bike. Ergo/compact bars won't work with it. It is a "Giant Adjustable alloy" stem. Has anyone made this switch? What did you do?
Sources Needed for Plus Size Clothing
I have just started biking and am loving every minute of it! Can anyone share sources of bicycing clothing for plus size women? I am currently hopeful of finding at least padded underwear that can be worn under shorts, capris, etc. Thank you!
Bike For My Birthday
My Birthday is in a couple of weeks!! I would love a New Mt. Bike! I have picked out 2 but I'm not sure which one to go with.

Riding an FCR, looking for suggestion for road bike
I ride an FCR2 from a few years ago (black with gold/white graphics). I like it a lot, but in my quest for learning better skills on steep, windy downhill descents it has been suggested that I think about a road bike with drop handlebars.
My top consideration is what is the best bicycle for control on steep downhills (I can get up anything).
I'd like to be a bit faster too, but I'm not interested in racing. I like long rides and want the safest ride. I'm no expert but ride a lot.
Can you suggest a good choice and what the plusses and minuses are?

Riding Friends Wanted in Acton, MA
hi,
I just started riding road bikes again in May of this year. I have been riding with a few of my men friends but really haven't found any women to ride with in my area. I have joined a bike club and gone on some rides but the women are either way better than I or way below. I ride about 16 avs on 35-50 mile rides with moderate climbing. i would love to find some women to ride with.... seems like this site is full of women in states other than mine!
Any takers for the Acton, MA area?
-Beth

AWESOME!!! Clinic at Northstar California
I had the BEST time this past weekend. I did come home a bit sore and a little bruised but all worth it. I learned so much about hitting the trails by some very fun, inspirational, learned and talented women. I can speak for every student there that we all were pushed to our limit at one point or another. The off the trail times were great, as well. Those gals know how to have fun! Not to mention the yoga and the massage. Boy was I lucky to have this weekend. Thanks to everyone there and... Tara you are in my prayers!!
NEW TO RIDING
Well, I am offically getting my new Giant Avail today after work. I rented a gaint last weekend. I got a pair of Pearl Izumi Women's Sugar Knickers, I rode 13 miles and they were pretty dang comfortable, but my question is should I wear my sports underwear under them, or am I not supposed to wear anything with those? Also, should I use cream or the glide stuff also? Any advice would help, as I am brand new to road bike riding... Thanks and happy riding! :o)
Hoo Ha Ride Glide...For Women By Women
My firend and I started a company for women with active lifestyles...by women.
Our flagship product Hoo Ha Ride Glide is an anti chaffing exercise skin cream designed for women. It protects your most girlie parts from chaffing, friction burns, irritations, inflamation, and saddle sores. Provides healing and a lasting cool feeling so you enjoy the ride. I wanted to share it all with you so you dont have to settle for nut cream (we both used to use DZ Nuts, our husbands cream) until we worked with a chemist to develop one for us and our parts.... Don't ignore the needs of your Hoo Ha, Don't ride without it !

WOW...The new Giant Dash!
I just saw Giant's new 2010 Dash 3. It is a beautiful bike. If you are considering a FCRw3, you should wait and take a look at the newer version, which is called Dash. It uses the same power drive fork design and lightweight frame design as the ladies Avail road bikes. They also use the lighter dual pivot brakes just like the road bikes.....24.5 pounds. I can't wait to see the Dash 1 & 2. GREAT JOB GIANT!
Size Recommendation for Anthem W
I test rode an Anthem last year at a demo show and LOVED it. It was a men's bike, though, and I would imagine it was the small frame, but I really have no way of knowing. What would be the advantage of getting a women's specific (besides the fact that Also...no option to just buy the frame? I'd really rather just buy the frame and build it up to my liking. This would be my primary racing bike and I'd use my old one as a backup at 24 hour races. Thanks for any help.
New Frame or New Bike?
A friend of mine owns a Giant OCR 3, but wants to upgrade to something a little lighter. However, she still wants to stay in the performance class and, yes, not spend a lot of money. She was thinking about just replacing the frame with something lighter, and she asked my opinion on this, but I don't know much about the process. Any advice for her?
New Mt. Bike!!
Tomorrow is my birthday and my wonderful boyfriend got me my very first mt bike! I am a triathlete at heart and love to road bike....so this off roading stuff could be a challenge for me. But he's a very experienced rider and has a lot of patience....so that should be ok! We are going away to ride some trails in PA this weekend. Very excited to test out the new wheels. hoping for no broken bones or injuries!!
Want to get women riders together
I am trying to get together like minded women that cycle in the LA/OC area to start a women's cycling team. The low key no pressure team will be for those that are of all riding abilities to improve their skills and for the general comraderie that comes along with being on a team. The team can be for those that ride road, mtb and triathletes. Main group rides will start at Bonelli Park in San Dimas most likely on Wednesday evenings and on Saturday mornings and will be composed of numerous 8 mile laps. There will be a no drop policy and there will be two regrouping spots. Faster riders can designate sprint competitions on course. Those that ride mtb can also ride the trail system at Bonelli and can meet on the same days as the road group.
This is just something that I am trying to put together. Any input is welcomed. Also, I am thinking about joining Velo Bella (check out thier web page) and if we get enough women together we could all be part of that team and wear their jerseys and represent them if any decide they want to race.
Email me if interested

How do you choose bike clothing?
I bought a Cypress W in April and love it. I'm new to biking - hadn't been on a bike since I was 18, and that was 30 years ago. I'm biking to get fit, lose weight (lost 65 pounds in the last year), and have fun. I have been looking at padded bike shorts and need a jacket and good top. Probably shoes too, but one thing at a time, and I figure the shorts are the best place to start.
How do you choose? There seems to be so many different choices and I have no clue. Oh, and if it helps, so far, I'm managing only about 7 miles each time out. Again, just starting out. I hope to build up to longer rides. I think the shorts will help because that's what hurts after about 6.5 miles.
Thank you for any advice.

Looking for a Comfortable Bike
I'm not a biker. I'm 51 and need to get exercise and lose weight. I tried biking a few years ago but the bike was so uncomfortable. Can someone recommend a bike that would be good for a beginner, comfortable and not terribly complicated. I don't want to run races but hey you never know.
Painting a Bike
Hello Ladies...
I have just brought the Avail 3 (my Avail 1 is in storage) I didn't want to have two of the same bike and I haven't rode for a while so I figured a step-down wouldn't hurt. So, I am worried about my bike getting stolen.
I will be using it for transport and (SOMEDAY!!! racing). I heard that getting a paint job would help detour criminals from swiping my bike.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it difficult? Should I just leave it alone?
Thanks

I'm Looking for a Bike!
I am 26 years young, 5’3 and 290lbs. I’m looking for a bike that will support my weight. I have been looking online for information on bikes made for big women but I can’t find any. This is the only website that I found that is dedicated to women cyclists. Someone please help. I really don’t want to go over 300lbs and diet alone isn’t helping. I want to get into cycling because I want and I need to lose weight. I use to ride as a teenager and it felt good. The bike will be used on boardwalks as well as streets. I would definitely like to get back into it. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks.!!!
Switching from Mountain bike to Long Ride in Urban Areas?
Hello,
I have a Giant Mountain bike that I love. However, for my last 40mile ride, I rented a different bike and it was such an easier, more enjoyable ride!
I am looking to purchase a new bike for long rides in the New York City streets, bridges and parks.
What type of bike with strong tires for long rides would you recommend?
Thank you!
Jane

OCR 3 vs Avail 3
I'm looking to buy an entry level road bike to stay in shape and do charity rides with. I'm wondering if it's worth an extra $150 to get the 2009 Avail 3 rather than a 2007 OCR 3. The other option is to save $100 on a 2008 OCR 3 over the Avail 3. Money is really not a big issue i'm just wondering if the construction, materials, components, ect are worth the extra money to get the avail 3?
Roadbiking in West Michigan
I'm looking for west MI roadbike riders to ride with.
I'm 48. I can usually hold 20mph for 1+ hrs. My cadence averages 53/21 100-111 on flat, 1.5 hrs. (I currently ride with my husband, he pushes me too hard!) I don't work so I'm available most of the time.
I'd like to join a club and do some racing this year?
I'd like to know someone who could give me the ins and outs of the bike scene, clubs, group rides, racing, etc.

Stuck in a Rut
I have been wanting to get into biking more seriously for a number of years, but have always had problems finding the right bike. I am 5'0, and as such have had a hard time finding a frame that fits me comfortably (I have always had to stand on my tip-toes when not on the seat). With all the women's frames coming out, I think it's the perfect time for me to get back into biking, and I'm really considering a road bike. I've got my eye on an avail, but I don't want to get something more advanced than what I can handle right now. The other part is that I am moving to MA in the summer, and I don't know what the roads are going to be like. Will a road bike be able to handle pavement that isn't perfect? Any suggestions about which bike may be a good suit? There aren't any bikes in town my size to test ride, and I would really appreciate any feedback.
Thanks!
Thanks!
New to Road Riding
Well I am looking at getting into road riding for getting fit Healthy and also want to train for a duathalon. I am looking at buying a FCR 3w as my starter bike and I don't have alot of money either. What do you guys think is this a good bike for me?
Thank you
Thank you
Love my Avail Advanced
The first day of the Amgen Tour of California I talked to Tiffany from Giant and told her my frustration in trying to find a nice bike that had pretty colors. I liked the Avail Advanced but it was all white! A local dealer had said you can add accessories to add color and that is what I did. Tiffany told me to email her a picture and I don't know where to do that. But it turned out great. I put pink bar tape, pink bottle cage, a ride like a girl seat, tires with a pink stripe, and pink pedals. It might give hope to others who want a pretty carbon frame bike that is an excellent ride. If anyone knows Tiffany's email to send her a picture, let me know.
Giant for Women Arizona Mtn Bike Clinics Rock!
If you live in Arizona and are new to mountain biking, I've discovered a wonderful clinic being put on by Giant for Women. It started about a month ago and will continue through the summer.
I tried mountain biking last year and, because I didn't know what I was doing, fell often and decided I didn't like it...this year, with the help of Martha (the professional mountain bike instructor), I've learned how to control the bike through all sorts of terrain and conditions...
I've enjoyed riding with this group so much, I've entered a couple of beginner races and had a great time.
The clinics are listed on the Giant for Women site as well as the MBAA site (mountain biking association of Arizona). The instructor is amazing, the Giant rep has nice bikes to demo, and all the women (and occasionally men) have been supportive and fun!
Hope to see you out there...I'll be there for sure!!

what to buy
I'm planning on doing some charity rides as well as keeping fit. I've been riding off & on for years( never "racing") just really like to ride! After an illness kept me down for a couple years, last year I bought a FCR2. I mostly ride near my home on the beach bike path. I would like to advance a bit. But still not interested in racing, just longer rides. So my question; Aeryn 1 or Avail Alliance? Why is Aeryn listed as competion & Avail performance? Stupid, I know but I love the colors of Aeryn Alliance & Aeryn 1.
Thank you

Suede Rider would like suggestions on rear rack & fenders
Have been loving getting back into biking again after a long hiatus. The Suede W (7 gear) suits me fine for my gently hilly desert area. Now that I can ride longer and faster, would like to do some commuting, running errands, etc. Which racks and fenders will fit onto a Suede with 26" X 1.95" tires? The seat is angled so close to the rear tire that I have some doubts about how to fit everything together. Suggestions??
